Wanted: Arne Maier

Hertha Berlin midfielder Arne Maier, has been dubbed the next Toni Kroos, has attracted the attention of Manchester United and Arsenal.

That’s according to The Sun, who claim the Premier League heavyweights will send scouts to watch him next weekend in Stuttgart.

Maier, 19, is tipped to earn a senior call-up for Germany in the near future having played every minute of Hertha Berlin’s Bundesliga campaign.

Maier is rated at £15m but it would take more than that to entice him away from the Bundesliga, with £30m a more likely figure.

Arsenal head of recruitment Sven Mislintat is likely behind the interest after his links to Germany have been used successfully to bring in other talent.

Ousmane Dembele training incident

Ousmane Dembele is causing issues at the Nou Camp after he was two hours late for training on Friday.

The Frenchman’s tardiness has been a problem this season and his professionalism has been called into question.

He’s been late to training on several occasions and last month failed to show at all citing gastroenteritis.

Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo say he simply overslept on Friday prior to the derby clash with rivals Espanyol.

Question marks around his attitude have resulted in links to Premier League sides.

Arsenal and Liverpool – who are expected to strengthen their ranks in January – have both been linked.

Wanted: Any left-back…

Two Premier League left-backs are being targeted by Marseille, according to reports in France.

Marseille have shipped 25 goals in 16 games – and manager Rudi Garcia is desperate to tighten things up at the back.

The Ligue 1 side are eyeing up Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal and Liverpool’s Alberto Moreno to remedy the problem.

Monreal, who has missed seven Premier League games with a hamstring injury, return to action against Huddersfield on Saturday.

But Unai Emery’s decision to switch to a back three with Sead Kolasinac deployed in the wing-back role could see Monreal sold.
