Titans rookie muffed punt return for a SAFTEY in bizarre play against the Jaguars – WATCH

The Titans were 7-0 up in the first quarter, when Batson took his place in the backfield as the Jaguars prepared to punt on their fourth down.

With 54 seconds left in the quarter Batson attempted to catch the ball on Tennessee’s eight-yard line, but he misjudged the flight.

The football went through his hands, bounced off his knee and then began rolling towards the Titans end zone.

After Batson collects the ball on the one-yard line, he made the bizarre decision to take the ball into his own end-zone.

The special-team rookie then tried to execute a cut-back, while seven Jaguars special team players descended upon him.

Batson was quickly stopped and brought down for a safety and in the process giving the Jaguars their first two-points of the evening.

This Week 14 game is important for the Titans who are 6-6 ahead of the AFC South clash, as they are still in the hunt for a playoff place.

The Jaguars, who are under performing this season are 4-8, have no hope of making the playoffs this season and are propping up the bottom of the division.

Ahead of the game Titans coach Mike Vrabel spoke about the importance of the team exploiting the deep pass as they approach the post-season.

“We have to do more of that, just to keep teams from sitting on you and bodying up at the top of the route,” Vrabel said.

“It was good to see Taywan be able to stretch the defence and go make a play, to be able to hit two of those to change field position and momentum.

“Certainly, we would like to have as many of those every week as we could.”

Jacksonville are coming into the game after a 6-0 victory over the Indianapolis Colts and Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone believes the improved performance showed the professionalism of his players.

“It comes down to a couple of simple ‘P words’,” Marrone said.

“And if they’re not cool ‘P words’ like playoffs and postseason, they’re important ‘P words’: Professionalism and pride.

“A lot of times it’s about being a pro,” he added.
