Sergeant Major Tom Winter’s audacious exploits included stealing two German ships, escaping a PoW camp dressed as a French soldier and the capture of a Nazi observation post. Now Sgt Maj Winter’s impressive medal group, including his Military Medal for bravery, will be sold at auction in London for a pre-sale estimate of £30,000.

Fleming wrote a series of novels including Casino Royale, published in the Daily Express as a cartoon in 1958.

Fleming described Bond as “a compound of all the secret agents and commando types I met during the war”.
