Virgin Media ultimate tips and tricks – Seven simple hacks every user should know

If you are a Virgin Media user and happen to own one of the latest V6 set-top boxes then there’s some simple tips and tricks to help you get more from this service.

Express.co.uk has rounded up seven of the best hacks you can use right now.

HOW TO RECORD SIX SHOWS AND WATCH A SEVENTH

If your favourite TV shows all happen to be broadcast at the same time, don’t panic.

The latest V6 box allows six recordings to be made at once meaning you should never miss a moment even when there’s a TV scheduling clash.

If that’s still not enough to keep you entertained, then you can actually watch a seventh programme whilst the other six are being recorded.

This is possible via any shows you already have stored on the V6 box or via catch-up on the BBC iPlayer or Netflix apps.

SQUEEZE MORE ON YOUR BOX

Virgin’s V6 box includes a 1TB hard drive which is enough space to record 100 hours of TV in HD quality.

However, there is a simple hack to help you store more of your favourite content on this device.

Simply switching to standard definition when you record means you can fill the device with a whopping 500 hours of shows – that’s over 1,000 episodes of Eastenders.

CONTROL YOUR BOX WHEN YOU’RE NOT AT HOME

If you’ve left home and have forgotten to set your V6 box to record something you fancy watching then don’t worry.

There’s an app called Virgin TV Control which can instantly turn your device into a handy extra remote control for your V6 box.

As long as you have a WiFi, 3G or a 4G connection you can use this from anywhere in the world.

The app allows you to set and manage your recordings plus you can stream your recordings to a device connected to the same network.

DON’T FORGET TO WATCH A SHOW

Bookmarking shows or movies will tag them in your My Shows folder.

So, when you want to watch your TV Box Sets, On Demand movies and Netflix series (if you subscribe), they’ll be ready waiting for you.

How it works.

1. Select the On Demand movie or episode you want to tag

2. Click Bookmark In My Shows

3. If it’s a TV show, choose between tagging the series or just the episode

DON’T PANIC IF YOU DELETE A SHOW

We’ve all done it.

You are scrolling through the never-ending list of recordings and you tap delete by mistake.

Luckily there’s an undelete feature on the V6 which allows you to rescue shows and movies that you’ve erased by mistake.

To access this feature simply head to My Shows > Select Recently Deleted Recordings

Then choose the programme that’s been erased and click Recover This Show.

FIND YOUR REMOTE

If you’ve dropped the remote down the side of the sofa again then don’t worry as there’s a very simple way to track it down.

When you can’t find the controller simply head to the V6 box and hold the Channel Up button.

Wait for up to ten seconds, then your remote will start to bleep.

CUSTOMISE THE CHANNEL GUIDE

If you’re fed up with scrolling through endless channels that you never watch there is an easy way to simplify this menu.

Virgin allows you to customise your channel guide to include only your favourites, allowing you to reach sport and movies even quicker.

To access this feature just Press Guide on your remote then scroll left and highlight Channel Guide and hit OK.
