Mesut Ozil: Arsenal boss Unai Emery makes stunning revelation after win over Tottenham

Ozil was left out of the Arsenal squad to face Tottenham in the north London derby.

Arsenal ran out 4-2 winners at the Emirates in a stunning game which is being hailed as the best of the season so far.

But Ozil remains a talk point due to his absence. Officially he was out with a back strain.

But Emery was asked if the German was at the game to watch, and he said: “I don’t know.”

When asked if he could have played he said: “He has back ache.”

And when pushed if he had told him yesterday that he wouldn’t be playing he said: “This is a good day to speak about players who played.”

And Gary Neville, as a pundit on Sky Sports, claimed he could see Ozil leaving the club in the near future.

Speaking before Arsenal’s clash with Tottenham, Neville said: “I wouldn’t be surprised [if Ozil is left out].

“I thought he’s need three of four transfer windows to get it right here.

“You can see it evolving, this team. I think he’s achieving the maximum out of his team.

“There are a couple of players who are going to play less and less minutes, and have less and less influence at this football because they’re not on the journey he wants to go on.”

Arsenal moved up to fourth, leapfrogging Tottenham on goal difference, ahead of their clash with Manchester United on Wednesday.

“Now I am thinking about the match on Wednesday,” he said.

“This was a very big victory, we give our supporters this victory because it’s a special match for them.

“It’s special as well for us, but it’s three points – like in Bournemouth last weekend.

“We need to continue in our process. Today, for our confidence was a big match.

“We know it’s very difficult in Manchester. In history and in the present.

“We want to prepare in the best possible way to have the best performance.

“This is a big challenge for us and we want to have challenges like Wednesday.”
