Arsenal team news: Mesut Ozil WILL start against Tottenham – Jermaine Jenas

Ozil was axed by Emery for the win over Bournemouth last weekend as he didn’t offer enough physicality.

But Jenas says the German World Cup winner will be back in the side for the Emirates clash.

“I didn’t quite understand Unai Emery’s comments about dropping him because Bournemouth was a ‘physical team’,” Jenas told the Mail.

“It wasn’t like it was Cardiff. Bournemouth won’t overpower you like that. They might outrun you and perhaps that’s what he meant.

“He played Henrikh Mkhitaryan in that game, who isn’t the hardest worker. I think Ozil will be back today.

“He offers tremendous vision and an ability to unlock Tottenham’s back four. But he can’t be sure of his place. And that’s good for Arsenal.”

Although Jenas thinks Emery’s decision to axe Ozil has helped warn Arsenal players that they can’t be complacement.

“Mesut Ozil has wonderful talent, no one would dispute that,” he said.

“It’s hard to argue with the honours he has won: the World Cup tops a list that includes a La Liga title, three FA Cups, the Copa del Rey in Spain and the German Cup.

“Still that nagging question persists: is he that important to Arsenal? If he left tomorrow for £80million, do you sense Arsenal fans would go mad?

“The fact he can be dropped against Bournemouth suggests he’s not integral to the team.

“Arsenal are no longer subservient to him and I think the club needed someone who will say to all the players: ‘If you’re not going to work hard enough, you’re not playing.'”
