Arsenal vs Tottenham: Premier League north London derby latest score, goals and updates

ARSENAL 4-2 TOTTENHAM | AUBAMEYANG, DIER, KANE, LACAZETTE, TORREIRA

Arsenal XI: Leno, Mustafi, Sokratis, Holding, Kolasinac, Bellerin, Xhaka, Torreira, Iwobi, Mkhitaryan, Aubameyang.

Tottenham XI: Lloris, Aurier, Vertonghen, Foyth, Davies, Dier, Sissoko, Eriksen, Alli, Son, Kane.

  • Jan Vertonghen handball inside penalty area
  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang converts penalty
  • Eric Dier heads home Christian Eriksen cross
  • Aaron Ramsey and Dele Allii bust up on the sidelines
  • Harry Kane converts penalty after Holding fouled Son
  • Aubameyang grabs a second with a sublime finish
  • Alexandre Lacazette nets third from distance
  • Lucas Torreira adds fourth
  • Jan Vertonghen sent off for second yellow

ARSENAL 4-2 TOTTENHAM

91: Serge Aurier picks up Tottenham’s fifth yellow card of the afternoon when chopping down Kolasinac. Six minutes of added time to be played. More torture for Spurs.

90: Spurs have had more red cards against Arsenal than any other opponent in the Premier League.

89: Everyone’s losing the plot now. None more than young Harry Winks, who is livid with Hector Bellerin for simulation I think. Storm in a teacup as Lucas Torreira separates them.

86: Arsenal fans loving life right now. A man advantage and a two-goal cushion – Spurs fans start to leave the stadium with just under five minutes left on the clock. Can’t blame them.

ARSENAL 4-2 TOTTENHAM | RED CARD

84: Implosion complete. Tottenham are down to 10 after Mike Dean sends off Jan Vertonghen for a second bookable offence. He picked up a yellow for that handball earlier, and just dangerously slid in on Alexandre Lacazette.

82: Lucas Torreira is the fourth Arsenal player to score his first ever Premier League goal for the club in a match against Spurs, after Nicklas Bendtner, Mikael Silvestre and Per Mertesacker.

Danny Rose on for Ben Davies.

80: I should mention that Lucas Torreira took his shirt off in celebration and received a booking for his troubles.

Mauricio Pochettino makes a double change with Harry Winks and Lucas Moura replacing Son Heung-min and Dele Alli.

ARSENAL 4-2 TOTTENHAM | TORREIRA

77: Gary Neville says that the Emirates Stadium is literally shaking – and I believe him after Lucas Torreira sends the hosts into ecstasy!

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turns the provider when slipping a delicate through ball to Torreira, who takes a touch before rifling it beyond the helpless Hugo Lloris.

Absolute scenes here in north London. Scenes I tell ya!

ARSENAL 3-2 TOTTENHAM | LACAZETTE

75: Would you believe it!!!! Arsenal are back ahead thanks to a fine solo effort from substitute Alexandre Lacazette!

Aaron Ramsey pops the ball over to Alexandre Lacazette, who slips but somehow squeezes a shot from 18 yards low into the corner. Took a deflection off Eric Dier now I’ve seen the replay.

The Gunners dive into a heap on the floor in celebration, and a cheeky couple of fans leg it onto the field to join.

73: Final Arsenal change. Matteo Guendouzi replaces Mustafi, who has picked up an injury. He’ll struggle to be fit for Wednesday’s clash against Manchester United.

70: Wow. Hector Bellerin nearly etched himself into north London derby history for all the wrong reasons. He inexplicably passes straight to Son, whose quick snapshot is palmed away by Leno.

69: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the first player to score with 10 consecutive shots on target in the Premier League since October 2007 (Benni McCarthy for Blackburn).

68: Wooosh! Alexandre Lacazette is constantly swapping flanks and It’s causing Spurs serious problems. He gets the better of Davies before his arching cross is headed away by Foyth. Aubameyang was lurking…

65: I see a few Spurs fans asking for Harry Winks. It might not be the worst idea with Spurs struggling to get hold of the ball. Lucas Torreira has been fantastic this afternoon.

63: Sokratis is the next Arsenal defender to fire over from inside the penalty area. Aaron Ramsey follows suit after a neat one-two with Lacazette before shooting into the side-netting.

60: Reached the hour-mark. If the final 30 minutes is half as good as the first 60 minutes we’re in for a treat.

58: Off the line! Goodness me this is just pure intensity. Arsenal are galvanised now and throwing the kitchen sink at a retreating Tottenham.

Mustafi makes a nuisance of himself during a corner and manages to knock the ball down to the onrushing Torreira, who leathers it just wide of the post.

ARSENAL 2-2 TOTTENHAM | AUBAMEYANG

55: Do me a favour! What a finish from Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to level things up.

Substitute Aaron Ramsey does exceptionally well to shrug off a few challenges before sending it over to the forward, who somehow wraps his foot around it and curls a beauty beyond Hugo Lloris.

Game on!

LIVERPOOL vs EVERTON

54: As if the two derbies weren’t enough our third and final offering starts immediately after this battle.

Liverpool XI: Alisson, Gomez, Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Shaqiri, Firmino, Mane, Salah.

Everton XI: Pickford, Coleman, Keane, Digne, Mina, Gomes, Gueye, Sigurdsson, Walcott, Bernard, Richarlison.

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM

51: Kolasinac is playing a dangerous game when tugging Juan Foyth by the neck during a Tottenham corner. Mike Dean missed it, fortunately for the Gunners.

48: Arsenal can’t afford to be giving away free-kicks in these dangerous areas – Christian Eriksen is lethal with his delivery. Harry Kane decides to take responsibility for this one and fires an awkward, dipping drive that Leno tips over.

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM

45: Are you ready? We’re back underway. Arsenal make a couple of changes with Alexandre Lacazette and Aaron Ramsey on for Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan. No messing from Unai Emery – who clearly isn’t afraid to switch things up.

Twitter round-up

Ashley: Everyone complaining about the referees need to ask why Rob Holding is diving in. Makes Mike Dean have to make a decision. Amateur defending.

Stephen: Son with the most blatant dive ever. He kicked the ball against his left foot and then fell over Mike Dean wasn’t even up with play!

Chris: Son telling Mike Dean his Christmas card is in the post as they go off for half time there……Should send him several after that gift of a penalty…

Sean: Aaron Ramsey trying to fight Dele Alli alone is an Arsenal enough reason to give him a new contract on Monday!

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM

HT: Shkodran Mustafi forces a fingertip save from Hugo Lloris just before Mike Dean blows the whistle for half-time.

Absolutely breathless north London derby. It had everyone – goals, penalties, fights and bookings aplenty. You may want to consider sticking around for the second half…

44: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang heads a late corner into the penalty area and Shkodran Mustafi decides to channel his inner Lionel Messi with an audacious overhead kick. Wasn’t executed like the Argentine magician would have.

41: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is delighted to see the offside flag raised. Sead Kolasinac slips it into the middle for the forward, who strikes straight at Hugo Lloris. Wouldn’t have counted anyway.

38: Just to mention that ‘brawl’ again. Unai Emery was quickly into the thick of it telling his players to calm down and regain their composure. Not sure they were listening…

35: No player has scored more Premier League North London derby goals than Harry Kane (8, level with Emmanuel Adebayor).

34: Shkodran Mustafi comes in high on Son Heung-min and goes into the book.

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM | KANE

34: What does Harry Kane do with penalties? He scores them. No doubt as he fires into the bottom left-hand corner.

Spurs have turned a one-goal deficit into a one-goal advantage inside four minutes!

PENALTY TO TOTTENHAM

33: This is bloody brilliant! Absolutely breathless stuff in a full-blooded north London derby. Mike Dean points to the spot when Rob Holding needlessly slides in on Son. No a huge amount if contact but enough in my opinion folks.

31: Oh It’s getting a bit tasty now! Eric Dier is booked for inciting the crowd when running over and shushing them with his finger to his lips. He’ll probably get fine but he’s definitely booked.

The aggravation spill onto the sidelines with Aaron Ramsey and Dele Alli going at it. The pair have hold of each other and the pushing and shoving begins.

ARSENAL 1-1 TOTTENHAM | DIER

29: Goal! Christian Eriksen delivers a superb free-kick and Eric Dier is there to glance the header beyond Leno.

The Arsenal goalkeeper will be kicking himself because he looked to be fully behind the ball.

28: Robust challenge from Sokratis on Son and concedes the free-kick five yards from the left touchline. Dier and Co wander into the penalty area…

Christian Eriksen steps up…

27: Rushed and panicked from Harry Kane. The striker is felled by Sokratis, but without thinking he hoofs it forward to Son – who is miles offside. Bit more composure required from the visitors because there are holes in this Arsenal defence.

24: Save! Tottenham just starting to look threatening as Son is threaded through one-on-one with Leno, who makes a BIG save to keep Arsenal ahead.

22: Ferocious opening 20 minutes from Arsenal. Much better all over the pitch – especially from Lucas Torreira. The battling midfielder has the home crowd on their feet after a series of terrific tackles.

20: Serge Aurier is getting completely roasted down the Spurs right touchline. Sead Kolasinac and Alex Iwobi are leaving him for dead and once again the Nigeria international has his shot blocked.

It could be three or four. No exaggeration.

17: Dele Alli plays it forward for Son Heung-Min but Bernd Leno saves well at the near post. I’m pretty sure that’s the first time Spurs have entered Arsenal territory.

15: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the top scorer in the Premier League this season – he’s scored with each of his last nine shots on target in the competition.

14: Honestly, Spurs are so rattled. Alex Iwobi avoids three challenges before slipping the ball wide to Kolasinac, whose cross sits up nicely for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The striker should double his tally but barely connects with a swinging leg.

12: I forgot to mention in all the drama that Jan Vertonghen was booked for the handball. Deservedly so.

ARSENAL 1-0 TOTTENHAM | AUBAMEYANG

9: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes no mistake from the spot by cooly sending Hugo Lloris the wrong way.

Advantage Gunners in the north London derby.

PENALTY TO ARSENAL

8: What on earth is Jan Vertonghen thinking? The centre-back inexplicably raises his hand inside the penalty area to clear a speculative cross from the left flank. Bizarre and crazy in equal measure.

7: Touch more composure and Arsenal would be ahead. Spurs are all over the place at the back and that allows Alex Iwobi to wriggle into the penalty area before letting rip. His effort is blocked and the visitors scramble it clear.

6: It looks like Son is playing up front alongside Harry Kane. Presumably with the thought that his pace will test Sokratis, Mustafi, and Holding. No sign of that yet because Spurs have barely touched the ball.

5: Big call from Mauricio Pochettino to start with Juan Foyth over Toby Alderweireld, who is fit and among the substitutes today.

Arsenal continue to dominate the opening exchanges, making full use of the width of the pitch with Iwobi and Mkhitaryan causing a few problems.

3: Spare a thought for referee Mike Dean, who is booed by BOTH sets of supporters before the game kicked off.

Decent enough start from the hosts as Henrikh Mkhitaryan sets off down the right flank and delivers a good cross for Aubameyang to head over the crossbar.

ARSENAL 0-0 TOTTENHAM

1: Oh It’s a bouncing atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium today. I’ve spotted more than a few anxious Arsenal fans, who are sounding concerned by the absence of Mestiut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette being on the bench.

Predictions? I’ll go for a 1-1. Yes, I LOVE sitting on the fence.

Travel sick Gunners?

14:02: Despite the last-minute changes to travel plans ahead of their Europa League tie against Vorskla Poltava in the Ukraine, Arsenal kept their composure to run out 3-0 winners in Kiev.

Head coach Unai Emery left many of his first-team squad back in London, so it remains to be seen how, if at all, the circumstances will impact on today’s high-pressure north London derby against a Tottenham team very much on a high from their own midweek Champions League win over Inter Milan at Wembley.

Arsenal statement

14:00: Arsenal have cleared up why Mesut Ozil isn’t playing against Tottenham with a statement on their official Twitter account… kind of.

An official Arsenal tweet read: “We’re without @MesutOzil1088 today – he misses #ARSTOT after suffering a back spasm in training.”

£300k per-week and he’s completed just five Premier League matches all season…

Twitter round-up

Prakash: I have a feeling critics will change their opinions on Alex Iwobi forever after today’s game.

Paddy: Bad news for Spurs fans ahead of the North London Derby, as Mesut Ozil is ruled out of the game through injury.

Uche: No Mesut Ozil again in the Arsenal team. If he’s not injured, Unai Emery has some major cojones. Curious that 3-4-3 seems to be his favoured formation. Henrikh Mkhitaryan needs a drastic improvement from last week to justify his inclusion.

Barney: Sympathy for Mesut Ozil, have also done my back many times doing chores, jogging etc. Would recommend taking up a competitive sport as a healthy hobby.

Team news

13:55: A back injury has ruled Mesut Ozil out of the Arsenal side to face Tottenham in the first north London derby of the season.

The playmaker was only on the bench for last weekend’s win at Bournemouth and it was unclear in the build-up to this game as to whether he would be recalled.

That decision was taken out of the hands of Gunners’ head coach Unai Emery, who named the same XI that won 2-1 on the south coast a week ago.

That meant Alexandre Lacazette was only named among the substitutes at the Emirates Stadium, with Arsenal again fielding a three-man defence.

Tottenham kept their Champions League hopes alive with a late win over Inter Milan during the week, with Christian Eriksen coming off the bench to score the game’s only goal.

He was rewarded with a start as one of four changes by Mauricio Pochettino, who also recalled Eric Dier, Juan Foyth and Son Heung-min.

ARSENAL vs TOTTENHAM

Arsenal are sweating on the fitness of Alexandre Lacazette, who has a minor groin complaint. Nacho Monreal (hamstring), Konstantinos Mavropanos (groin) and Danny Welbeck (ankle) remain sidelined, while Mesut Ozil will be pushing for a recall.

Tottenham will assess Erik Lamela as the Argentinian battles a thigh injury, while Kieran Trippier (groin) is not quite fit. Mousa Dembele (ankle), Victor Wanyama (knee) and Davinson Sanchez (hamstring) are all injured.

Last season: Tottenham 1 Arsenal 0, Arsenal 2 Tottenham 0

Last five league matches: Arsenal W D D D W; Tottenham W L W W W

Top scorers: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Arsenal) 10; Harry Kane (Tottenham) 11
