Amazon Echo is receiving a huge upgrade that will please Apple fans

Amazon Echo comes in a number of different models but all possess the same core functionality.

That is because every Echo device comes with Alexa built-in, meaning owners can ask the virtual helper questions and request it perform a manner of tasks.

All Echo hardware comes with a speaker system that is capable of streaming audio from the likes of Spotify and Amazon Music.

Such a feature is hugely-popular with owners and can be controlled using voice commands.

But now Amazon is adding support for Apple Music to its line of Echo products in a move that will surely come as good news to fans of the Cupertino-based behemoth.

The update will provide users access to the service that boasts over 50million songs.

Commenting on the change, Dave Limp, the senior vice president of Amazon Devices, said: “Music is one of the most popular features on Alexa—since we launched Alexa four years ago, customers are listening to more music in their homes than ever before.

“We are committed to offering great music providers to our customers and since launching the Music Skill API to developers just last month, we’ve expanded the music selection on Alexa to include even more top tier services.

“We’re thrilled to bring Apple Music – one of the most popular music services in the US – to Echo customers this holiday.”

Amazon added the feature will arrive from the week of December 17 to Echo owners.

The firm went on: “Music has always been one of Alexa’s most popular features and today we’re excited to announce that Apple Music will be available on Echo devices beginning the week of December 17.

“Apple Music subscribers will be able to enjoy Apple Music’s 50 million songs on Echo devices. Customers will be able to ask Alexa to play their favourite songs, artists, and albums—or any of the playlists made by Apple Music’s editors from around the world, covering many activities and moods.

“Customers will also be able to ask Alexa to stream expert-made radio stations centred on popular genres like Hip-Hop, decades like the 80s, and even music from around the world, like K-Pop.

“Just ask Alexa to play Beats 1 to hear Apple Music’s global livestream including in-depth artist interviews— all completely ad-free. Simply enable the Apple Music skill in the Alexa app and link your account to start listening.”

The Echo announcement comes amid a huge price crash for both the standard Echo and the Echo Dot that has made them incredibly affordable.

• Amazon Echo (2nd Gen) – £54.99 (was £89.99) GET THE DEAL HERE

• Amazon Echo Dot (3rd Gen) – £24.99 – (was £49.99) GET THE DEAL HERE

It is worth noting Amazon has said the Echo Dot is currently out of stock and will not have units until January 26.

This means customers can still take advantage of the deal, but may not receive the product until next year.
