Google Chrome update will finally bring Android up to speed with iPhone users

Chrome is Google’s internet browser offering that is harnessed across the globe.

In fact, the client is considered to be the most used on mobile and desktop platforms, surpassing the likes of Safari, Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge in terms of active users.

One of the biggest reasons for Chrome’s laudable success is due to the fact Google consistently updates it with new features and fixes.

And now it seems the client is set for another upgrade that will bring gesture navigations to the software.

9to5Google recently spotted a commit in Chromium’s Gerrit source code that suggested such a feature is being worked on.

An extract from the commit read: “Implement gesture navigation on Android.”

Moreover, code was presented that mentioned overscrolling to travel back and forward through different web pages.

Chrome for Android already allows users to pull down from the top of a page to refresh it.

However it appears such gesture functionality is being taken a step further by allowing users to swipe left and right to go forward and back on pages respectively.

These features would surely need testing on a multitude of different websites to ensure they work properly.

A number of mobile browsers present users with options to swipe left and right to browse through images for example and Google will surely want to implement its gestures without disrupting the current experience offered in Chrome.

The move from the American tech firm could be in place to enhance the cohesion between Chrome and Android 9 Pie.

The latest and greatest software from Google debuted back in August and introduced navigation gestures.

Google was also keen to tout the importance of gestures, especially when navigating Android on phone’s with larger displays.

Apple’s Safari browser already allows iPhone users to perform similar back and forward actions with intuitive swipes.

And although a precise release for Android gestures for Chrome is unknown, it appears fans of the Google operating system are going to be brought up to speed with iOS users in the near future.
