Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho dealt triple injury blow ahead of Champions League clash

Jose Mourinho’s side face Swiss side Young Boys tomorrow night as they look to bounce back from the goalless draw with Crystal Palace.

But it looks like they will be forced into changes at the back as Victor Lindelof missed training today.

The Swede, an important player for Mourinho in recent weeks, was among of trio of players including Matteo Darmian and Marcos Rojo to miss the open session today.

Damrmian also made a rare appearance on Saturday with Luke Shaw suspended, Diogo Dalot injured and Antonio Valencia still out of favour.

Rojo though has not appeared for Manchester United all season, with his last club game coming on May 13 against Watford in the 1-0 win.

United could qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League tomorrow night if they win and Valencia don’t beat Juventus, so Mourinho will be keen to have his strongest side available.

Lindelof picked up a groin injury on Saturday and is almost certainly out of the match with Young Boys.

Mourinho said told MUTV: “I always say this is the period of the injuries. If they are not injured with the national teams, they come to the clubs and are injured.

“He played against Russia three days ago or two days ago, but of course, we need him when he plays.

“He was probably our best player. He was a brave lad, but he probably punished himself. I don’t know how long he will be out, but he is a fantastic example.”

Shaw though should return after missing the Premier League match while Mourinho will have to chose between Eric Bailly and Phil Jones at centre back.

Mourinho was furious on Saturday, insisting his side threw away two points in their hunt for the top four.

“It was a bad result,” he said. “I would say a very bad result. It is not a point, it is two points lost.

“The objective was we had eight matches until the end of December to recover our position, to get points, to shorten the distance, to get close to the top four, but in the end we lost two points.

“We gave them time to breathe because we were not intense and intense and intense. We lost the ball, we gave them time to breathe and then we were waiting for things to happen and things didn’t happen.”
