Lionel Messi: Barcelona star reveals the big challenge he faces for the rest of his career

The Barcelona superstar has racked up the awards over a glittering career.

Messi has won the Ballon d’Or five teams, won the Champions League four times, La Liga nine times, the Club World Cup three times, and countless other individual awards.

But Messi insists he can get even better.

“My big challenge is to keep growing and not keep what I already did, won or achieved,” he said at a promotional event with Unisports in collaboration with Adidas.

“I want to improve myself day by day, get more goals and win more titles.”

Messi, 31, has scored 14 times already this season, but incredibly doesn’t regardless himself as a goalscorer.

“I see myself more as a player controlling the games,” he said.

“Of participating a lot with the ball, to play, rather than as a scorer.”

Messi and Barca take on PSV in the Champions League on Wednesday, although he may get the evening off having already booked a place in the last 16.

Messi was unable to help Barca win against Atletico at the weekend though as the needed a late Ousmane Dembele strike to earn a point.

Diego Costa’s 77th-minute header had looked like taking Atletico above the champions but a previously dull game came to life in the latter stages.

Dembele had the final word when his deflected strike found its way into the net in the last minute.

The result ensured Barca stayed ahead of Atletico at the top but Sevilla could now move above them before the end of the weekend.

The clash largely failed to live up to expectations and neither side could muster a shot on target in a drab first half.

However despite his strike Dembele is said to have requested a transfer in January after struggling to adapt to life in Spain.

Arsenal and Liverpool have been linked with the winger although PSG may be the best option as part of a deal to see Neymar go back the other way.
