Google Pixel 3 is getting an upgrade that has to be seen to be believed

Pixel 3 released at the start of the month and comes with a host of features that make it hugely appealing to fans of Android.

First and foremost the device runs Google’s most pure version of Android, meaning there is no skin present.

And, because the device is made by the American tech giant, it is also the first to receive new software updates.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL also come with a rear camera sensor that

Although the flagships only arrive with a single 12.2-megapixel lens, photos taken boast laudable levels of detail and clarity.

Part of the Pixel 3’s camera dominance comes from the fact it takes advantage of Google’s clever machine learning technologies.

Although the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL are both highly-capable handsets, they are getting an upgrade that will make them even better.

A spokesperson from the Mountain View company recently confirmed to Venture Beat that Google Duplex is now available to a “small group” of Pixel owners.

Google Duplex debuted at the firm’s I/O software conference back in May and promises to make bookings and reservations for users by harnessing the Google Assistant.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the tech giant, explained: “The vision for our assistant is to help you get things done.

“It turns out, a big part of getting things done making a phone call, you may want to get an oil change scheduled, maybe call a plumber in the middle of the week, or even schedule a haircut appointment.

“We are working hard to help users through those moments, we want to connect users to businesses in a good way.”

Pichai added the service aims to provide an intuitive method of booking, especially when no online reservation systems are available for certain businesses.

He went on: “Businesses actually rely a lot on this, but even in the US, 60 percent of small businesses don’t have an online booking system set up.

“We think AI can help with this problem.

“We’ve been working on this technology for many years, it’s called Google Duplex.”

Essentially, Google Duplex will be triggered when a user asks the Assistant to make a booking for them.

The virtual helper will then call the outlet in question and make the reservation.

Demos shown of the feature at Google’s I/O keynote showed the Assistant’s ability to adapt to conversations and dealing with potential problems.

Although Duplex is not currently rolling out in a full capacity just yet, the small group of Pixel owners that have been granted the function are able to make restaurant reservations.

A spokesperson for the American tech firm told Venture Beat: “We’re currently ramping up the ability to book restaurant reservations through the Google Assistant over the phone using Duplex technology.

“To help deliver a good experience to Pixel users and to businesses, we’re starting with a slow rollout and will expand to more Pixel users as we continue to ramp up.”

It is understood the “small group” of users that have received the feature are all based in the US.

Google had initially stated some of the areas to receive the feature first would be New York, Atlanta, Phoenix and San Francisco.

It is currently unclear when Google Duplex will arrive in a full capacity or in other regions.
