Arsenal news: ‘There are similarities to Neymar’ – Nicholas singles out one Gunners star

That is according to former Arsenal, Celtic and Scotland forward Charlie Nicholas.

Emery spent two years as manager of PSG with Neymar joining halfway through his reign in the French capital.

The Brazilian superstar is often described as a luxury player who perhaps does not offer too much defensively.

Ozil has often been criticised for that part of his game during his five years at Arsenal.

Nicholas interviewed Emery earlier this week and spoke to the Spaniard about Ozil, PSG and Neymar.

The pundit was then asked on Sky Sports’ Soccer Saturday if Emery looks at Ozil like he did Neymar.

“Does he see someone like Mesut Ozil in a similar light to Neymar?” Nicholas was asked.

The Scot says there are some similarities but reckons Emery will want Ozil to put in more of a shift defensively.

“A bit similar but he probably wants him to do a little bit more team work,” Nicholas said.

“With Neymar, I think behind the scenes what he was really saying about Paris was they kind of do what they like.

“He loves offensive players, so he wants to improve them and try their best and more or less always have a joy of playing.”

And Nicholas reckons if Ozil does not follow Emery’s demands, the Arsenal head coach will not hesitate in dropping the former Germany international.

“If you remember Ozil under Arsene (Wenger) he’d give the ball away and we’d see it time and again, he would slouch down and the shoulders will go down and no reaction,” he added.

“Now he’s asking for a little bit of reaction, show a bit more commitment to it.

“When I mentioned it and especially the high-profile games, he’s basically telling us he should be playing better in those games and I will ask him to play better.

“But I genuinely do think given time that this man will eventually say ‘if you keep disappointing me, I will change it, there will be change’.”
