Nicolas Roeg dead: Don't Look Now and The Man Who Fell to Earth director dies aged 90

According to The Mirror, film director Nicolas Roeg’s death has been confirmed by his family. Nicolas’ cause of death is currently unknown. Express.co.uk has contacted a representative for Nicolas for a comment.  His directional duties included The Man Who Fell to Earth, Castaway, Don’t Look Now, Bad Timing and The Witches.

Nicolas was born in St John’s Wood, North London on 15 August 1928.

The film director did his National Service after World War Two.

He later got a job making tea and carrying out other duties at at Marylebone Studios.

It was at the latter he began to work on a number of films.

Nicolas got his big break in 1964 when he worked as a cinematographer on Roger Corman’s film The Masque of the Red Death.

He won his first BAFTA three years later for his work on John Schlesinger’s 1967 adaptation of the Thomas Hardy novel, Far From the Madding Crowd.

Since the news of his death, many celebrities and fans have flocked to Twitter to pay a tribute to the late star.

David Bowie’s son Duncan Jones penned a touching message in view of his 338,000 followers. 

He wrote: “Just heard another great storyteller, the inimitable Nicolas Roeg left us today. What an incredible body of work he’s left us with!

“All my love to his family.

“Thank you for making so many brave choices, & giving this strange little lad in pajamas an ongoing love of filmmaking.”(sic)

Film producer Jonathan Sothcott wrote: “Sad to hear of the death of #NicolasRoeg – one of our great directors.

“Had the pleasure of working with him on a Don’t Look Now ‘making of’ documentary many years ago and he was a gentleman. RIP, Nic and thanks for the movies.”

Nicolas was married three times in his lifetime.

He first tied the knot with actress Susan Stephen in 1957 up until their divorce 20 years later.

The former couple have four children together, Luc, Waldo, Nico and Sholto.

He also has two children Statten and Maximillian with his ex-wife Theresa Russell.

He married his third wife Harriet Harper in 2004.
