Anthony Joshua reveals who he NEEDS to win Wilder vs Fury

Wilder takes on Fury at the Staples Center on December 1 in a blockbuster defence of his WBC heavyweight world title.

The unbeaten Fury remains the lineal champion of the heavyweight division after his points victory over Wladimir Klitschko in November 2015, while Wilder also boasts a spotless record with 39 knockouts in 40 victories.

Joshua and Wilder were negotiating to fight each other this year but the talks came to an impasse over disagreements on the purse split.

Wilder resultantly took the fight with Fury, who represents the biggest challenge of his career.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ is still on Joshua’s radar, however, with the Englishman’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, aiming to fight Wilder at Wembley on April 13.

Those plans could be scuppered if Fury wins in Los Angeles, though.

“If Fury wins, Wilder gets a rematch so it messes up the plans a bit,” Joshua said.

“Wilder is a champion now and if he wins, he can do what he wants.”

As a result, Joshua asserted: “I need Wilder to win. It gives me more of an opportunity to fight him.

“As a champion, if he retains his belt, that’s the fight that people have been yearning for, so hopefully 2019 is going to be a big year for me.

“The Wilder fight has to happen. We’re both champions. Fans are demanding it.

“It’ll be a double-sided fight (it’ll happen twice). For me, the first one will take place in London at Wembley.”

Joshua has made his pursuit to be undisputed world heavyweight champion no secret, but remains set on trading blows with both Wilder and Fury some point down the line.

“I’ll fight both. I’ll fight them both on the same night (laughs),” he continued.

“We’ll end up fighting them both. We’re the same generation. Same time. Same career. The fans will demand it.

“Fury is big domestic fight. Wilder is big international fight. So they both make sense. I’d be willing to fight both.”
