Melania Trump’s THANKSGIVING scandal: First Lady’s tweet sparks fresh OUTRAGE

The First Lady, who spent the holiday at Mar-a-Lago luxury resort with her husband, President Donald Trump, and the rest of her family, received an onslaught of negative comments amid her social media post. The US President sent more than 5,2000 troops to the Mexican border the week before the US midterm elections as a caravan of migrants is slowly approaching the United States. According to General Terrence O’Shaughnessy, the head of US Northern Command, soldiers have been sent to the borders in Texas, California and Arizona.

Last week, it emerged the American firebrand was planning on keeping the troops in position throughout Thanksgiving.

The First Lady tweeted: “Wishing you all a very happy Thanksgiving!

“As we give thanks, let’s keep those who can’t be with their families in our thoughts today.”

The tweet immediately triggered public uproar, as many people took umbrage with the message the First Lady wrote.

One said: “Do you mean the troops your husband sent to the border for a political stunt, which failed.. ?”

Another one asked: “Like the 5000 members of the military at the border?”

A man added: “You can thank the POTUS for keeping troops away from family and friends this Thanksgiving.”

Earlier in the week, President Trump commented on the soldiers at the border and noted people should not be concerned about them.

He told reporters, “Don’t worry. These are tough people….You’re so worried about the Thanksgiving holiday for them.

“They are so proud to be representing our country on the border.”

Democratic Senator for Hawaii Brian Schatz criticised the US President over the issue, claiming that “deploying troops to our own border for no national security reason was one of the biggest scandals” of his presidency.

Mr Schatz said: “Deploying troops to our own border for no national security reason is one of the biggest scandals of this presidency.

“These dedicated, skilled, highly trained men and women will likely miss Thanksgiving with their family, are near American cities but eating ready-to-eat meals.

“Let them go home.”
