Jose Mourinho furious with transfer decision, Man Utd boss sees it as HUGE issue

The Special One was desperate for Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward to bring a new defender to Old Trafford.

United made moves for Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld, Leicester star Harry Maguire and Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar.

The Red Devils were also linked with Atletico Madrid superstar Diego Godin and Jerome Boateng of Bayern Munich.

However, Woodward refused to back his manager in the summer, with United instead signing Fred, Diogo Dalot and Lee Grant.

And according to the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho felt severely undermined by the United board after their below-par transfer window.

They say United’s failure to land a centre-back was an ‘absolutely huge issue’.

MEN add that Mourinho is still adamant United need a new centre-half in the January transfer window.

Reports this week have claimed Mourinho will be handed a transfer kitty in the New Year.

There were doubts whether Woodward would sanction deals after United’s share price plummeted yesterday.

However, the Red Devils are willing to splash the cash in January in hope of securing a top four spot.

United chief Woodward recently boasted about the club’s financial power, hinting they can spend whenever necessary.

“On the pitch we remain well positioned in the Champions League,” he said.

“And although we have had a mixed start to our domestic campaign, the squad and the manager are fully united in their determination to regain our momentum in the Premier League.

“Our financial strength enables us to continue to attract and retain top players and to invest in our academy, as we look to drive the success on the pitch that the club and our fans expect.

“We remain on track to deliver our record full-year revenue guidance, underpinning our long-term, strategic plan to create sustainable growth across all areas of the club.”

United are currently eighth in the Premier League, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City.

The Red Devils are back in action on Saturday afternoon, with Mourinho’s men facing Crystal Palace.
