Meghan Markle news: Is Duchess of Sussex allowed to celebrate Thanksgiving?

Meghan Markle, 37, officially became part of the Royal Family in May this year, and her life has drastically changed in six months – the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pregnant with their first baby.

This time last year Meghan and Prince Harry, 34, were soon to announce their engagement after the Prince got down on one knee during a cosy evening in cooking dinner together.

At the time, the couple were keeping their romance very low-key, and they’d only made one official public outing together at the 2017 Invictus Games.

But fast forward to November 2018 and their lives are very much within the public eye, meaning a lot of royal fans are questioning whether Meghan will be able to celebrate Thanksgiving.

While there isn’t an official royal rule stating American holidays must be bypassed, Meghan and Harry don’t have any scheduled royal engagements for the 22 November so they could be celebrating Thanksgiving at home in Kensington Palace.

Last year Meghan celebrated with mum Doria Ragland in their hometown in LA.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex honoured Meghan’s American roots throughout their royal wedding in May, so it’s likely they will continue to mark occasions special to the Duchess’ home country.

And after the couple revealed their engagement night involved cooking a roast chicken, Meghan will no doubt be planning an extravagant turkey dinner.

But just four weeks later and the couple will be enjoying turkey yet again on Christmas day.

Meghan, who is pregnant with her first child, will spend Christmas with the Royal Family this year and her mum Doria is rumoured to be joining them.

It’s the first year the Duchess is officially part of the Royal Family, so she will have more of a role in the festivities.

The Royal Family have their own unique traditions for Christmas, meaning the children including Prince George, five, Princess Charlotte, three, and Prince Louis, seven months, will be opening their presents the night before.

When the Christmas tree is put up in the Queen’s Sandringham Estate, Norfolk, it’s tradition for Her Majesty and the members of her family to add the finishing touches, so Meghan will likely get involved in the decorations.

And on 25 December the whole family heads to St Mary Magdalene church for the Christmas Day service.

Like the rest of the royal household, Meghan and Kate will receive presents from the Queen.

Presents are exchanged during teatime on Christmas Eve when the family lay out their presents on trestle tables.

Last year, Meghan got the Queen a present which Her Majesty is said to have thoroughly enjoyed.

According to the Daily Star, the wife of Prince Harry gifted her husband’s grandmother with a singing toy hamster.

Christmas 2017 was one of Meghan’s first royal engagements and the former Suits actress was visibly nervous as she awaited to curtsy for the Queen.

Meghan and Harry and William and Kate made the front pages with their joint Christmas outing and their continued united appearances have earned them the nickname of “the fab four”.
