Martin Lewis Money Show: The one money saving tip to save you HUNDREDS this Christmas

Martin Lewis, 46, known as the Money Saving Expert, returned with The Martin Lewis Money Show on ITV tonight and outlined how to save money on a variety of things from energy bills to council.

But with one of the most expensive times of year fast approaching, Christmas, how can you avoid overspending?

The trick is easy – reiterating his message from his Money Show this time last year, Martin said forget about Christmas being a “retail festival”.

He said: “This causes some people unhappiness, debt and worry.”

This is because people feel obliged to buy gifts for others.

Martin said it’s a “zero sum game” and described it as “tit for tat giving”.

He explained: “It’s time for us to get off this gift giving treadmill.

“Let’s come together to ban unnecessary Christmas presents.”

Putting a fixed figure on Secret Santa gifts, such as £5, or giving to charity are alternative recommended by Martin.

Martin added: “Let’s be honest and open about it. That will make more people have a happier Christmas.”

With the biggest retail event of the year fast approaching – Black Friday – Martin also listed what he predicts will bethe best money saving offers in the upcoming sale
