LeBron James: Cavs star lifts lid on big trade decision ahead of Lakers showdown

Disgruntled forward JR Smith – who had requested to leave the side earlier this season – will now get his wish.

Smith will be traded away following a lack of playing time despite their poor 2-13 record.

And injured Cavs star Kevin Love has weighed in on the decision and what it means for his side.

He told The Jump: “It’s tough to lose a guy like that especially when you’ve been in the trenches with him, you’ve been to war with him.

“He was one of the fan favourites and a guy who played both sides of the ball.

“I think moving forward like Channing said it’s that growth mindset with the team, it’s committing a team that’s going to be younger.

“We’ve had some bright spots but we just haven’t been able to put together 48 solid minutes of basketball.

“But as far as JR we all wish him the best, we all love him and he’s going to do good.”

The Cavs welcome LeBron James back with the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday and the NBA All-Star has been speaking about what he expects.

“I don’t try to put too much into it,” he explained.

“I will see some familiar faces. I’ll think about some of the good. I’ll think about some of the bad.

“I’ll think about some of the great times that I had with the franchise, obviously.

“And then once the tip-ball gets going, it’ll be time to go to work.

“It’ll be good to see some of my family that’s going to come to the game, see some of my friends as well, and get the thing going.”

The Cavs take on the Lakers at 1am on Thursday UK time.
