Instagram DOWN – Photo sharing app not working, users hit by ‘couldn’t refresh feed’ error

2pm UPDATE: Instagram continues to be down with users hit by the error message ‘Couldn’t refresh feed.’

ORIGINAL STORY: Instagram is down right now for thousands of users.

The popular social media and photo sharing service hit trouble at around 1.15pm today with both the app and website seemingly not working.

There’s now thousands of reports across the UK, USA and many parts of Europe.

Independent website monitor, Down Detector, is showing a surge of issues with thousands of Instagram fans currently unable to access or use the app.

Down Detector is an independent website which tracks social mentions around certain topics to detect outages across the globe.

It appears many users are seeing the error “couldn’t refresh feed” when trying to access the app.

Twitter is also packed with users complaining about the issues with one saying: “Anyone else’s #Instagram down?”

And another added: “#instagramdown why does this have to happen to me?”

The issue comes as Facebook also appears to be suffering from a network outage with thousands of reports also suggesting the popular social network is suffering from a major outage.

One user commenting on Twitter said: “So Facebook and Instagram are down. Expect worldwide productivity to double today!”

Adding a comment on the Down Detector feed another Facebook user confirmed: “Facebook down on all platforms in Leeds, Huddersfield, Halifax, Bradford, and Wakefield not forgetting Cramlington Northumberland, Ashington and parts of Newcastle West.”

Instagram and Facebook have both been hit by numerous outages in the past few months with Messenger going offline just last night.

Users of Instagram had trouble accessing the app in September and then again last month.

There’s no word on what is causing today’s outage.
