NBA news: HUGE Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins claim made by 76ers star Joel Embiid

Philadelphia 76ers star Embiid has posted some staggering figures already in the this season.

Embiid has averaged just shy of 28 points per game and his total rebound per centre is up (12.9 per cent).

The center is trying to stake his case to be one of the biggest NBA stars.

The 76ers – who are fourth in the Eastern Conference with an 11-7 record – have designs on reaching the NBA Finals and have looked more fluent with the arrival of Jimmy Butler from Minnesota Timberwolves.

And before the 76ers clash against the Phoenix Suns, Embiid admits he still has some way to go to reach the levels of Davis and Cousins.

He said: “This is the first year I really get to work on my basketball skills.

“I’m extremely competitive and I want to win.

“If I say I’m the best in the league, then that puts a lot of pressure on me!

“Maybe Anthony [Davis] and DeMarcus [Cousins] are better than me.

“It means it will make me improve my game.

“It’s all about setting that bar high.

“I’m only going to get better.

“I also have a lot of expectations and I want to win the Championship.”

The 76ers trailed by five at half-time of their clash against the Suns.

Davis’ Pelicans are in need of some inspiration as their record stands at 9-7.

They are currently eighth in the NBA’s Western Conference.
