Carol Kirkwood: BBC Breakfast presenter reveals REAL reason she became a weather reporter

Carol Kirkwood has presented the weather forecast on BBC Breakfast since 1998, however, there was a time when she could not imagine becoming a meteorologist.

In fact, the TV star had to be persuaded by a new agent to audition for the role, which would change her life.

Recalling the moment, the radio presenter told BBC Breakfast’s Charlie Stayt and Louise Minchin in 2014: “I had an agent who was very hungry.

“He was brand new and he sent me for an audition with The Weather Channel and I went along thinking I don’t want to be a weather presenter.”

She continued: “I went to other studios with another competitor and I just loved it.”

Since then, Carol, 56, has won countless awards for her presenting skills and has worked at the BBC for two decades.

However, she has no intentions of leaving the corporation anytime soon and said she will stay as long as she is needed.

“I’d never give up the weather on Breakfast,” Carol insisted in an interview with Radio Times earlier this year.

“If they showed me the door I would hang on by my fingernails,” she added.

“So, as long as Breakfast wants me, I’ll be there, because I love it,” she finished.

Carol is extremely popular with her colleagues and was recently praised by her co-star Simon King.

Meteorologist Simon took to Twitter on November 15 to gush about Carol, calling her the “weather queen”.

He uploaded a snap of the pair cuddling backstage at the BBC weather studio after Carol presented her live segment.

Cosying up to Simon, Carol sported the same purple frock she had worn to report the weather earlier in the day.

Meanwhile, Simon donned a crisp white shirt and a dark blazer, which he paired with a checkered tie.

Beside the image, Simon wrote: “Nice to be at BBC weather HQ this morning, but even better to spend it with my breakfast weather Queen Carol Kirkwood.”

Responding to his touching post, Carol exclaimed: “HELLO MY LOVELY! So good to see you.”

Of course, Carol’s admirers also commented on the upload, with one saying: “Great photo of you both.”

Another enthused: “What a cracking photo,” while a third commentator simply said: “Lucky man!”
