West Ham news: Marko Arnautovic asked about transfer claims – here’s what he said

The Austrian hinted in the week that he maybe prepared to leave the club in order to play Champions League football.

He told newspaper Kurierwhile: “I’m 29 so that’s the best age. It’s clear that I want to compete with the best players. But in this affair I totally trust my brother.”

But speaking after Austria’s 2-1 UEFA Nations League win at Northern Ireland, Arnautovic tried to defuse talk he could leave the Hammers.

“I don’t want to talk about it. I am concentrated on West Ham,” he told Sky Sports.

“We have a big game against Manchester City on Saturday and I am only thinking about this game and the following games and what is being said is not my business.

“My business is to perform on the pitch, to put in performances and that is what I want to do.”

The attacker was on hand to set up the winning goal in Belfast after coming on as a late substitute.

The former Stoke man has been nursing a knee injury this season and has been playing through the pain barrier.

“I will be OK [to play Man City],” he added.

“Two days in a row was a bit too much but the gaffer asked me to play the last 25 minutes if needed, and it was needed. I am glad I could help.”

Arnautovic’s agent and brother, Danijel refused to rule out a move away from West Ham earlier in the week.

“He’s already playing in the Premier League and that’s where the best players are,” he said.

“But for a player like Marko this cannot be the end.

“He’s a big part of West Ham’s team but I think it’s possible to tease out more of him.

“For that to happen, he has to play for a top team.

“Marko is ready for the next step. A player like him should not play against relegation.

“He should play for the international [Champions League] spots.”
