Strictly Come Dancing 2018: Craig Revel Horwood speaks out on major new shake-up

Craig Revel Horwood, 53, has been a judge on the Strictly Come Dancing 2018 since it first launched in 2004. And it’s the first year the BBC One show has featured a major change with the series, by introducing new dances. The contestants are now able to choose from Theatre and Jazz, Street and Commercial and Contemporary for their Couple’s Choice dance.

The judge admitted he thinks the introduction of the new category is “great” and helps bring in “new audiences”.

Discussing his thoughts on the topic, he spilled to Express.co.uk: “I think it’s great because it provides great entertainment for the people at home.

“It’s different genres to get their heads around, plus they all tell different stories and provide different entertainment.”

He added: “It also brings new audiences in as well.”

Craig admitted: “Theatre and Jazz is my genre, it’s right up my street that’s what I trained in. My strength is in Theatre and Jazz.

“I did contemporary dance with the BalletBoyz as well.”

This weekend it’s Graeme Swann and Oti Mabuse’s turn to take on a Theatre and Jazz dance which they will be performing to track The Trolley Song by Meet Me in St. Louis.

Kate Silverton and Aljaz Skorjanec plus Joe Sugg and Dianne Buswell also still need to perform their Couple’s Choice dance.

Elsewhere, Craig said the BBC’s decision to sign up YouTube sensation Joe, 27, was “brave”.

“I think it’s great the BBC were brave enough to make a decision about that to include online stars as well.

“I think that’s good because that’s the way the world is going now, everyone has to be online otherwise you can’t even do your tax return without being online now!”

When asked whether he thinks having more stars who have found fame from social media is the way forward, Craig admitted he “hopes so”.

He divulged: “It is the way the world is going. I think online presence is enormous nowadays!”

Meanwhile, Joe can breathe a sigh of relief as he’s not favourite to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing this week.

Kate and Graeme are favourites to be voted off while Stacey Dooley and Kevin Clifton are still in the lead to win.

Coral’s spokesperson Harry Aitkenhead said: “Stacey is looking every inch the winner, combining some high scores on the dancefloor with very strong public support.

“She is going to take a lot of beating and we are expecting another big show in Blackpool this weekend.”

Strictly Come Dancing 2018 airs tonight on BBC One at 6.45pm.
