Sarah Ferguson: Will Duchess of York spend Christmas with Prince Andrew and Royal Family?

Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, 59, and Prince Andrew, the Duke of York, 58, married back in 1986, but announced their plans to separate just six years later, in 1992.

In 1996, the pair were granted a divorce – but despite parting ways romantically, they seem to have stayed on good terms.

The royals have two children together: Princess Beatrice, 30, and Princess Eugenie, 28.

So, will the family spend Christmas together – and will it be with the rest of their royal relatives?

Sarah, who is often known by the nickname Fergie, has spoken out about her plans for this year’s festivities.

In a recent interview, the royal confirmed that she would not be joining the rest of the Royal Family at Sandringham House.

Meanwhile, her two daughters are set to join their grandparents, Queen Elizabeth II, 92, and the Duke of Edinburgh, 97, for their traditional Christmas festivities.

Prince Andrew is also likely to be amongst members of the Royal Family who will attend the special day – given that his mother is hosting the royal event.

Speaking about her own plans, Sarah revealed she planned to watch the 1959 drama film Ben-Hur.

She told the Daily Mail: “I will watch Ben-Hur and really enjoy it, then watch the news and see how the girls are doing.”

The royal went on to be quizzed on how she felt about not having spent Christmas Day with her daughters for the past 22 years.

“I know that Her Majesty adores my children,” she said. “So I am happy to share them — both in August and at Christmas.”

It’s tradition for the Royal Family to spend Christmas and New Year at Sandringham House – which is Queen Elizabeth’s country estate in Norfolk.

In the 1960s, the royals celebrated the festivities at Windsor Castle, as the Queen’s children were small.

However, in 1988, the family returned to celebrate the occasion at Sandringham – a tradition they’ve continued ever since.

On December 25 each year, the monarch and other members of the Royal Family attend a morning church service at St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

However, the family have a rather unusual tradition compared to most Britons.

Rather than exchanging and opening presents on Christmas Day, the Royal Family lay out their gifts on Christmas Eve – which they exchange at teatime.

Other senior royals who will attend the royal event are Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, as well as Prince William and Kate Middleton with their three children: Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
