E3 2019: Sony PlayStation is leaving a big hole in the schedule

Sony PlayStation is skipping E3 2019 in favour of doing their own thing for PS4 fans.

That doesn’t mean setting up a rival event at the same time as the LA expo but more that they are thinking about doing their own stuff next year.

This will mean no presence on the show floor, as well as no usual PlayStation Press Conference.

The news broke today that Sony PlayStation was planning on skipping E3 2019, followed by an official comment from the tech giant.

So what is Sony PlayStation planning for next year?

Fans will be alerted to the fact that Sony could hold their own event earlier in the year to unveil their new console.

The PS5 is expected to be announced in 2019, followed by a release later that year, or in early 2020.

So the idea that Sony PlayStation might be scheduling something big that means skipping E3 2019, is exciting news.

In a new statement released to Game Informer, the company notes why they will be doing things differently next year:

“As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community,” the company statement reads.

“PlayStation fans mean the world to us, and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers.

“As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”

On the subject of setting up their own EA Play-style event, PlayStation senior vice president of communications Jennifer Clark elaborated further saying, “We will not activate or hold a press conference around E3.”

Clark also revealed that while the PlayStation Experience might not return in the same time slot, Sony is certainly looking to replace it with some exciting stuff.

“We are looking at events as a whole and how we can speak more to our fans and continue to wow them,” Clark adds.

“The timing of PSX and E3 didn’t allow for that,” Clark replied. “But lots of exciting things to come, and we hope to share shortly.

“Some of our biggest games will have key milestones next year so we will work hard to blow those up.”

Whatever Sony PlayStation does have planned for next year, E3 2019 will feel smaller without them in attendance.

The leading console makers always draws big crowds and have massive audiences tuning into their livestream conference.
