WW3: FURIOUS Norway LASHES OUT at Russia over alleged meddling during massive NATO drills

Norway’s military railed against Russia, claiming they meddled with communications systems. The Scandinavian nation’s allegations followed similar ones made by neighbouring Finland. The Finnish claims were made just a day before.

The Norwegian Defence Ministry said it “was aware that jamming has been recorded between October 16 and November 7 from the Russian forces,” claiming the interference came all the way from the Kola peninsula.

Troops from 31 nations were taking part in the recently-concluded military drills.

The so-called war games were the largest military exercise in decades.

Some of the Scandinavian servicemen reported patchy GPS coverage while training, blaming Russian interference.

No major accidents were reported as a result of the interference.

Finnish Prime Minister Juha Sipila made similar accusations over the weekend.

He implied Russia was behind the GPS glitches, and vowed to carry out a thorough investigation.

But the Kremlin has hit back at the “baseless” claims, calling them “groundless”.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said: “We have no knowledge of Russia possibly having any role in GPS malfunction.

“You should ask experts or the Defence Ministry.

“But there is an obvious trend to blame Russia for all mortal sins and then some.

“As a rule, these accusations are baseless.”

NATO had brought 50,000 troops to Norway to hold their largest exercises since the Cold War.

And Russia responded in-kind by holding their own drills from November 1-3 in the same international waters.

The obvious sabre-rattling from Moscow sparked fears among commentators of an all-out escalation between the rival nations.

Activist and author David Swanson was critical of NATO’s exercises, claiming they would inflame tensions and risk all-out nuclear war.

He told Express.co.uk: “The doomsday clock is closer to midnight than it has ever been.

“The actual danger of nuclear apocalypse is greater than it has ever been – exacerbated by the fact people are far less aware of it than they used to be.”
