Trump RAGES at Macron in shock WW2 attack: ‘You were learning GERMAN before US came along’

Today, just two days after Remembrance Day, the US President took to Twitter to unleash his rage against Mr Macron’s proposal. Referring to the Nazi occupation of southern France during World War 2, Mr Trump argued France should remember what the US did to defend Mr Macron’s country rather than branding Washington as a threat. Mr Trump wrote: “ suggests building its own army to protect Europe against the US, China and Russia.

“But it was Germany in World Wars One & Two – How did that work out for France?

“They were starting to learn German in Paris before the U.S. came along. Pay for NATO or not!”

Mr Trump added his French counterpart is suffering from “a very low approval rating”.

He wrote: “The problem is that Emmanuel suffers from a very low Approval Rating in France, 26%, and an unemployment rate of almost 10%.

“He was just trying to get onto another subject. By the way, there is no country more Nationalist than France, very proud people-and rightfully so!

“MAKE FRANCE GREAT AGAIN!”

Mr Macron took a major swipe at Mr Trump’s “America First” policies on Sunday, while delivering his speech at the Arc de Triomphe on Remembrance Day.

The French president said: “By saying ‘our interests first. Who cares about the others?’ we erase what nation holds dearest, what gives it life, what makes it great, and what is essential: its moral values.”

The mention of NATO in Mr Trump’s tweets refers to a long-standing demand of the US President who has called for the 29 members of the Atlantic alliance to pay their fare share to fund the force since he took office.

At the NATO summit held in July, Mr Trump urged world leaders to meet the spending target, amounting to two percent of each country’s GDP.

Only eight countries are expected to meet the target in 2018 – France will likely pay in 1.79 percent of its GDP.

This is not the first time Mr Trump has condemned the French President’s proposal.

On Friday, upon landing in France to attend a series of events celebrating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1, Mr Trump wrote on Twitter: “President Macron of France has just suggested that Europe build its own military in order to protect itself from the US, China and Russia.

“Very insulting, but perhaps Europe should first pay its fair share of , which the US subsidises greatly!”

Mr Macron had previously urged EU leaders to become “a more sovereign, a more united and democratic power” by creating a EU Army, which would ideally see the bloc becoming independent from NATO and the US for protection.

He added European allies should buy European-made materials for their defence rather than rely on the US for them.

Speaking to CNN, Mr Macron said: “ is in favour of a better burden-sharing within NATO.

“I agree with that. And I think that in order to have a better burden-sharing, all of us do need more Europe.

“And I think the big mistake — to be very direct with you — what I don’t want to see is European countries increasing the budget in defence in order to buy Americans’ and other arms or materials coming from your industry.

“I think if we increase our budget, it’s to have to build our autonomy and to become an actual sovereign power.

“I mean it’s part of our credibility vis-à-vis our people and vis-à-vis the rest of the world. And I think it’s fair.

“I think your president is right regarding that, and I think I’m right to precisely promoting this idea Europe has to become a more consistent, a more sovereign, a more united and democratic power.”
