Danny Welbeck ‘looked very happy’ in FaceTime chat with Arsenal squad after horror injury

But, despite Welbeck’s positive words, they were unable to get the victory.

Arsenal have now drawn four of their last five games and have slipped three points behind rivals Tottenham in fourth.

Unai Emery has started well in north London but he will concerned with the latest run which has seen them beat only Blackpool when coming up against Crystal Palace, Sporting Lisbon, Liverpool and now Wolves over the last two weeks.

While talk of a title challenge was always a little bold, they have now fallen six points behind second place Liverpool.

And they are now without forward Welbeck for the rest of the season after he broke his ankle in the Europa League last week.

Welbeck needed oxygen on the pitch and was tended to for five minutes before going off on a stretcher in the first half.

He was taken straight to hospital and it has now been confirmed he has broken his ankle.

But Bernd Leno revealed Welbeck was in good spirits as he spoke to the players on FaceTime before the Wolves game.

“We talked to him before the game in the meeting,” Leno said.

“We had a FaceTime session with him.

“It was very good, we wanted to win for him. We all are sorry for him for his injury, and hope he will have a good recovery and to see him on the pitch because he’s an important player for the team and also in the dressing room.

“He looked very happy and I think he was happy to talk to us because he is still a big part of our team and we will support him to have a good time when he is injured.

“That is a big quality of the manager because he always wants to have a team not just one player, and another player, and another player.

“This meeting was very motivating for us and for every player to play for Danny because everybody likes him.”

Emery delivered an update on the situation.

“Danny Welbeck’s injury is a big injury,” said Emery, in his post-match press conference after the 1-1 draw with Wolves on Sunday.

“We spoke with him yesterday and today. We support him with our personal relationship between the player and the staff.

“I think he is not going to be with us for a long time.

“He had an operation on Friday.

“I think it’s better for the doctor to say to you (the timescale).

“It’s a big injury but the outcome, the doctor can answer that better than me.”
