Fort Lauderdale airport given ALL-CLEAR after BOMB SQUAD responds to suspicious package

Authorities gave the all-clear and roads re-opened to traffic just before 9.45pm local time (2.45am GMT).

Broward County Sheriff’s Office issued a statement, saying: “Our deputies have deemed the package safe, and issued an all-clear.”

The airport added: “FLL has resumed normal activities and the roadways have reopened.

“Expect flight delays and check with your airlines for the latest flight information. We appreciate your patience.”

The police department reported on Sunday night that its officers and bomb squad were responding to reports of a suspicious package outside Terminal 4.

The police department said in a statement: “Around 6.30pm tonight, Regional Communications received a report of a suspicious package outside Terminal 4 at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport

“Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies and its bomb squad are on-scene and investigating.”

All roads leading to and from the airport were shut as police investigated the incident.

Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport said in a statement: “The roadways into the airport are currently closed due to police activity.

“Additional information and updates will follow.”

Passengers subsequently reported on social media that the airport was placed on lockdown.

Jorge Rosado wrote: “Bomb threat at Fort Lauderdale airport. Cops aren’t letting anyone go in or out of the airport.”

Brandon Wolf added: “Got off the plane to a lockdown at Fort Lauderdale Airport.”

While Matteo Bonetti said: “Everyone is on lockdown here at Fort Lauderdale Airport. Apparently a bomb threat or suspicious package.”

Despite the road closures no flights were cancelled, according to officials.

Flights scheduled to land at and take off from Terminal 4 were nevertheless redirected to other terminals in the airport.
