Man Utd news: Jose Mourinho DEMANDS board take action over future of one player

Herrera is out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of the season with no indication that he will be offered a new deal as of yet.

The Spaniard joined Manchester United in 2014, with the Red Devils paying Athletic Bilbao £28.85million for his services.

During his time in Manchester, Herrera has helped the club to the FA Cup, Europa League and EFL Cup.

He is believed to be keen to stay at United but knows he could be left with no choice but to look for a new club if his future isn’t resolved in January.

Herrera has struggled to nail down a starting place under Mourinho though shone when coming on against Bournemouth last week before starting against Juventus.

And now Metro report that Herrera held talks with Mourinho and told the midfielder he will go to the board to ask them to resolve his future.

It’s also claimed that Mourinho promised Herrera more game-time with the 29-year-old believed to be happy with progress.

It wouldn’t be the first time Jose Mourinho has intervened with contract renewals.

He took matters into his own hands last season regarding the future of Marouane Fellaini.

The former Everton midfielder was set to leave Old Trafford on a free until Mourinho went to his board and persuaded them to offer Fellaini a new deal.

And the big Belgian has proved vital to Mourinho at times this season, with Juventus boss Max Allegri admitting he proved the difference in midweek.

“In the first game, they didn’t have Fellaini and we used his absence to our advantage,” Allegri said.

“Tonight, he played and his physical presence was immediately felt.

“He controlled some high balls, although sometimes we were good at playing the ball on the ground.

“Conceding those free-kicks was our greatest mistake. That happened and we paid the price.

“We’ll have to learn from that.”
