Google Pixel 3 may have a big problem – Here’s what every owner needs to know

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were first shown off by Google on October 9.

Both devices improve upon everything the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL did right in a number of ways.

For starters, both phones have an improved design that allows for wireless charging thanks to rear glass panels.

Moreover, Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL also come with improved displays that Google claims provide better contrast ratios overall.

Pixel 3 comes with a 5.5-inch P-OLED display while the Pixel 3 XL comes with a larger 6.3-inch P-OLED panel.

And the flagship duo come with improved cameras and faster internals, too.

But it appears both the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL may have a big problem related to charging.

Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL released on November 1, but it appears users are already experiencing overheating issues with the Google hardware that is causing them to switch off entirely.

Owners have taken to Reddit to explain the problems they are experiencing.

One said: “I’m experiencing overheating and shutdown without warning during video calls while charging.

“It happened once during a Zoom (mobile app) conference call, and again during a WhatsApp video call.

“For the Zoom call I was using the Google Pixel Stand, and for the WhatsApp call I was plugged into an Anker 39W Car Charger.”

The user explained they have “never” experienced such issues with other Android hardware.

They went on: “I’ve used these apps for years on other Android phones the exact same way and never experience overheating.

“I will add that using the Google Pixel Stand hasn’t been fast to charge. I have no case on the phone, and when I first got it, I put it on the charger at 24 percent and it indicated ‘Charging rapidly (10 hr until full)’.

“Perhaps I have a faulty battery.”

However, it appears the issue is not solely present when the device is charging.

One Pixel 3 owner took to Google’s own product forum and explained their device started “overheating” during a video call and while using the camera application.

They wrote: “I have recently purchased Pixel 3 device. I am seeing issue of overheating while continuously using camera for 5-10 min and video call on WhatsApp (15-20mins).

“Device shows message about the same. And gets turned off.”

The user posted an image from their Pixel device warning them the device was “getting warm”.

The smartphone then shut off and informed the user such an action was taken “due to heat”.

Other reports of overheating issues have emerged both on Twitter and YouTube.

Circumstances surrounding the problem appear slightly different for each owner and it is currently unclear how widespread such a problem is.

Google has not yet commented on the matter – it is unknown if the issue could be remedied with a software update.
