The OnePlus 6T has been getting plenty of attention in recent weeks with this £499 flagship killer offering a premium experience for under £500.
Our recent OnePlus 6T review confirmed just how good this mid-range call maker is but this fabulous phone is about to get some serious competition from another Chinese rival.
Xiaomi has been producing devices for over eight years and now it’s finally bringing its range of lower cost phones to the UK.
Although it may not be a household name here in Britain, Xiaomi is a brand that’s hard to ignore.
This firm has seen rapid growth and is now one of the biggest smartphone manufacturers in the world with huge sales across China and India.
And it seems the devices they create are definitely worth your attention with the company packing some big specs into phones that are much smaller on your wallet.
Perhaps their most exciting phone to date is the all-new Mi 8 Pro which brings a swathe features for under that magic £500 mark.
The Mi 8 Pro includes a stunning 6.21-inch AMOLED Full Screen Display which stretches across the entire front of the phone.
This always-on screen is produced by Samsung which means you can expect some excellent visuals.
There’s also a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 3,000mAh fast charging battery and dual-lens rear camera which Xiaomi says can enhance photo brightness and quality while drastically improving focus speed, especially in low-light conditions.
One feature that you might not expect on a mid-priced device is an embedded fingerprint scanner which is tucked under the display.
The new OnePlus 6T also includes this technology which allows users to unlock the device with a simple tap on the screen.
Xiaomi is keen to point out that their scanner includes a dedicated pressure sensor which only activates the unlocking process once you place your finger on the screen, which is faster and more power-efficient than those that constantly ping the screen to see if a finger is present.
One final thing that the Chinese firm will be hoping consumers love is the new Transparent Titanium finish.
This gives a glimpse at what is going on inside the phone and is certainly a striking design choice.
Other flagship extras packed into the Mi 8 Pro include facial recognition, 20-megapixel selfie camera and a Gorilla Glass 5 case which should offer some protection should you drop it.
Xiaomi has just confirmed that its flagship Mi 8 Pro will cost £499 – the same price as the OnePlus 6T.
The Mi 8 Pro arrives with 8GB of RAM plus 128GB storage and will be available from November 9 through Three, Amazon, Argos, John Lewis, Carphone Warehouse, Currys PC World, Very, gomobile, mobile phones direct, Katana and Mi.com and the first Authorised Mi Store that will be opened on Nov 18.
Along with the Mi 8 Pro there’s another device being launch by Xiaomi that lands in your pocket at an even cheaper price.
Starting at £99, the Redmi 6A features the MediaTek Helio A22 SoC that is also built on the 12nm process.
Its 3000mAh battery allows the phone to stay in standby mode for up to 19 days.
Redmi 6A has a 13MP rear camera featuring phase detection autofocus and a 5MP front camera—both capable of using Xiaomi’s AI Portrait mode.
Speaking about the launch, Wang Xiang, Senior Vice President of Xiaomi Corporation, said: “Today we witness a new chapter in Xiaomi’s global expansion journey, underpinned by our global ambitions.
“We are thrilled to make great strides by announcing our arrival in the UK. By bringing a range of our amazing products at honest pricing we want to offer more choices and let everyone in the UK enjoy a connected simple life through our innovative technology ”
