Roger Federer: Pundit issues damning verdict on Swiss star ahead of ATP Finals

Roger Federer is in the hunt for his 100th career ATP title at the World Tour finals at the o2 Arena next week.

The 37-year-old has struggled for form this season and there are fears he is not taking the required rest.

Federer returned to Basel to win the Swiss Indoors two weeks ago, defeating Romanian Marius Copil.

There was then talk that he would skip the Paris Masters yet again to ensure he was fresh for the finals in London next week.

But the Swiss star played at the tournament in France where he was beaten by Novak Djokovic in the semi finals.

The Serbian went onto lose in the final against Russian Karen Khachanov.

Not so long ago, Djokovic was approaching the ATP finals as a standout favourite but there are now small doubts starting to creep in after the close match with Federer and then defeat in the final.

Tennis pundit Law doesn’t think the end of the Paris Masters will have any affect on his performance next week.

“It doesn’t change my view at all, with a week of refuelling and refreshing he comes in as the heavy favourite,” he told the Tennis Podcast.

However he does believe Federer’s form might be a cause of concern, despite Rafael Nadal’s withdrawal through injury.

“Federer might feel differently, that’s the one thing I might say,” he added.

“He feels different about himself, he hasn’t been playing very well for most of the year.

“He won Basel and didn’t play that well, the only time he has played well was at the start of the year.

“Maybe this is the moment he just starts to feel it coming back.”

Matt Roberts, a pundit and regular on the show is interested to see how the Swiss performs under pressure.

“He [Federer] has got two top ten wins all year which is the fewest of any in the London field so we don’t really know how he’s going to cope against these guys?” Roberts said.

“I think he’ll cope well, he always tends to get out of the group.”
