Guatemala volcano ERUPTION: Evacuations underway months after HUNDREDS killed

Volcán de Fuego, which is Spanish for Fire Volcano, has begun a new eruptive phase just months after the previous eruption killed 190 people in June.

The Volcanic Ash Advisory Center Washington (VAAC), a group which monitors information on atmospheric volcanic ash clouds, issued a report on November 5 at 2.46 UTC, where it was confirmed Fuego is erupting.

The volcano is located 27 miles (44km) from the country’s capital Guatemala City, which has a population of more than one million people.

This is the fourth eruption of the Guatemala’s volcano taking place in 2018.

The previous ones took all place in June – the first one taking place on June 3 at noon local time.

The unexpected event and its devastating force left practically no time for people to evacuate.

The heat and the explosion launched in the air rocks the size of baseballs and melt car tires into the ground.

Fuego, which sits on the notorious Ring of Fire, has erupted more than 60 times since 1524 – with the ones happened in 1974 and June this year being the most devastating ones.
