Midterm elections: Trump makes EXPLOSIVE claim as US President reveals his major REGRET

Ahead of a full day of rallies on the eve of the high-stakes midterm elections, the American firebrand held an interview with WJLA political correspondent Scott Thuman.

When asked if he had any regrets from his presidency or things he would like to “take back and redo”, Trump answered in a rare self-critique: “Well, there would be certain things.

“I am not sure I’d want to reveal all of them.

“But I would say tone.

“I would like to have a much softer tone.

“I feel to a certain extent I have no choice.

“But maybe I do and maybe I could have been softer from that standpoint.”

The US President’s remarks come after he faced harsh criticism for his tough and sometimes bellicose rhetoric, in particular following a deadly attack at a Pennsylvania synagogue that left 11 people dead and a series of mail bombs sent to prominent Trump critics.

After the Pittsburgh shooting, the US President made the controversial decision to continue with campaign events in Indiana and Illinois while the tragedy was still unfolding.

At first, he told crowds in Illinois he would be toning down the rhetoric as a show of respect, but received groans at the news from his audience.

He then added: “I had a feeling you might say that.”

During the last week ahead of the midterm elections, the US President embarked on a whirlwind tour of eight states but his tone did not seem to have softened.

At a rally in Indiana on Monday, Trump said Democrats encourage “millions of illegal aliens to break our laws, violate our borders and overrun our country”.

He added: “It’s not racism.

“It’s just that people have to come into our country legally, otherwise you don’t have a country.”
