‘HUGE explosion’ rocks Pennsylvania – ‘More INSANE than an earthquake’

Local authorities have confirmed the explosion was caused by a gas leak at a large private property.

According to local police, the property was empty when the explosion happened and there is no danger to surrounding properties.

There are no reported casualties.

Lower Merion Police tweeted: “Lower Merion Police and Fire are investigating the report of an explosion in the 600 block of Dodds Lane in Gladwyne.

“The explosion could be heard township wide.

“We will provide additional information when available.”

The gas explosion took place at shortly after 8pm local time.

Local media are reporting the affected house was 8,000 square feet, and had ten bedrooms.

Helicopter footage from the scene shows firefighters approaching the property which has been gutted by the blast.

Local resident Larry Borden, who had a window shattered by the explosion, spoke to Express.co.uk about his experiences.

He said: “We didn’t hear anything because we were driving home from dinner.

“We started getting tons of texts and calls from friends who said it sounded like a major explosion.

“Apparently the house was under construction and no one was home.

“Home is destroyed. Neighbourhood is shaken.”

Julie Theiss tweeted: “Philly area earthquake? Heard explosion like sound in Warrington and Conshohocken.”

Meanwhile, Katie Hunter asked: “Did anyone else in Conshy hear that loud explosion-esque noise?”

Another local added: “That sounds even more insane than an earthquake.”
