Fortnite Cube explosion: What happened to the cube? Epic Games event live

Today’s big Fortnite Cube event saw “Kevin” explode in a weird fashion that fans have come to expect.

Feeding into the narrative of wormholes and other dimensions, the Fortnite Cube finally vanished, taking all the players with it.

A big flash of light saw players land in another dimension, where they were left floating for a few moments.

There were also hints at other worlds being seen in the sky, which could mean all kinds of things going into the future.

Each player then interacted with a blue translucent butterfly, which fed into a very short cutscene of the player touching the new object.

It all ended with players hurtling back down to the normal Fortnite map, which had been altered slightly during their time away.

A new stone circle had sprouted where the Leaky Lake had been, which looks to be made from shards from the Cube event.

So there’s a good chance that this new map location will play into some kind of new event being held by Epic Games in the future.

Fans could also speculate that the other worlds spotted during their time in the white space could hint at some new kind of in-game lore.

Or it might be a hint that Epic Games will look at offering a new map sometime in the future.

The big event also ended Fortnitemares, meaning that fans will no longer have access to the challenges and modes associated with it.

Whatever happens next, fans appeared to enjoy the new event and are hoping for more like it in the future.

“After the cube exploded and there was a whole massacre, I just got logged out of Fortnite and now I’m in a 10-minute waiting line. Honestly, though, it was worth it,” one user writes.

Another adds: “What an event that was. Was I the only one that heard the Rocket’s siren in the rift world?

“That. Was. INCREDIBLE! And the butterflies were localised as well so everyone got to experience their own butterfly… Move over rocket launch, this event kicked your a**e.”

Fans have also started to report seeing a new rainbow in-game, with nothing strange reported about the new Fortnite effect… yet.
