Conor McGregor: Dana White gives update on next fight, reveals hour-long call over future

McGregor suffered a fourth-round submission defeat to the undefeated Russian last month in the main event of UFC 229.

The Irishman’s bid to reclaim the lightweight title he was stripped of in April due to inactivity .

McGregor campaigned for a shot at redemption hours after his fourth career loss, which came after a near two-year hiatus.

White held talks with McGregor last week, in which ‘The Notorious’ revealed he’s still hellbent on exacting revenge on his successor at the summit of the lightweight division.

“Conor and I talked for an hour last week,” White told Express Sport during the UFC 230 post-fight press conference. “And typical Conor.

“‘I would love an immediate rematch, I want to fight him again.

“‘But I’ll fight whoever I got to fight to get back to him if that’s not the case.'”

At this moment in time, former interim lightweight titleholder Tony Ferguson is seemingly the frontrunner to face Nurmagomedov next.

Before the brass can make a decision on what’s next for the lightweight division, they must first wait for the outcome of Nurmagomedov and McGregor’s upcoming disciplinary hearing with the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

The pair are both in hot water with the commission for their respective actions in the mass brawl which followed their grudge match.

“We’re on the Nevada State Athletic Commission’s time now,” White said. “We’re waiting until November… or December. Whenever that thing is.”

“And when that thing plays out, then we’ll know where we sit and then we’ll know what’s next.”

Nurmagomedov doesn’t plan on attending next month’s hearing, recently telling BeIN Sports Turkey: “I’m not going to Vegas for the court. I am not guilty.

“I just defended my family and my religion.

“If they want to punish me, they can get all the money I earn.

“They can give me 10 years ban. I don’t care.”
