NBA news: Klay Thompson SHOCK claim made about him joining LeBron James at Lakers

That’s according to The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor, who claims the expectation is for Thompson to re-sign with the Warriors in 2019.

Thompson is among a host of top-level NBA stars potentially available as free agents next summer.

His future has been a hot topic around the league, despite having declared his wish to remain with the defending NBA champions.

But the 28-year-old has insisted he won’t be accepting a cut-price deal, leaving the Warriors in a precarious position due to Kevin Durant also becoming a free agent.

It will be extremely tough for Golden State to pay both players max contracts.

However, O’Connor reports he has been told it is expected Thompson will re-sign with the Warriors.

“Thompson will turn 29 this season and will hit unrestricted free agency for the first time in his career next summer.

“With upward of a decade more of professional hoops remaining, Thompson could decide to wear a different uniform.

“And were he to hit free agency, it would be at a time when his particular skill set has never been more valued by this league.

“Every single team has shooting at the top of its wish list.

“The Lakers would definitely love a shot at pairing him with LeBron James.

“But the expectation across the league is that Thompson will re-sign with Golden State.

“Executives I’ve spoken with said they would be shocked if Thompson left the Warriors.”

The Lakers got back to winning ways last night in a tight game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Despite leading the entire game, up as much as 19 points at one point, the Lakers almost blew it in the fourth quarter when Luka Doncic drew the scores level.

However, James was fouled as he drove to the basket putting him to the free throw line.

He missed his first attempt, but made the vital second to give the Lakers a one-point win.
