Los Angeles Lakers boss Luke Walton to be sacked? Truth about head coach’s future revealed

However, Walton’s side have only won three of their eight matches this term – their latest coming with a narrow 114-113 victory against struggling Dallas Mavericks last night.

Some Lakers supporters have been calling for the head of their coach after such a poor beginning to the new regime.

“Let’s be honest, Luke Walton lost his job the minute Magic [Johnson] pulled up in front of LeBron gates,” one fan wrote on Twitter after the latest win.

While another added: “Luke Walton never let the good things happen. Just sack him and hire Kobe [Bryant].”

And a further disgruntled supporter requested: “Luke Walton was useless as a player and now as a coach. Sack him.”

However, journalist Ryan Philipps reckons Walton will still have another 12 matches before the Lakers hierarchy contemplate any decision

“I’ve heard some people questioning if Luke Walton is in trouble,” he said.

“My answer? No, he absolutely is not.

“No one with the Lakers is going to even make any judgments before this roster has played at least 20 games together.”

And Los Angeles Times write Dan Woike echoed those remarks.

”Luke Walton must feel safe in his job,” he said.

“At 2-5 with his team falling apart down the stretch, he called plays for Brandon Ingram instead of LeBron James.”

Meanwhile, Walton has called for patience as he believes his team will come good once they have had time to properly integrate.

“I thought we did a really good job today on our two main goals,” Walton said.

“We need to keep doing what we are doing offensively, we will get better with that.

“Defensively we need to keep them off the free throw line. It is good to get a win and hopefully we can learn the lesson that was out there today.

“It’s the second game in a row we have had a lot of assists in the first half and it stalled in the second.”
