US midterm elections: Fox News October ratings THRASH rivals CNN and MSNBC combined

Trump’s favourite news outlet, which he tunes into every morning to watch conservative news talk programme Fox & Friends, posted an average of 2.8million “primetime” viewers in total in October.

Primetime TV is defined in the US as between 8.00pm and 11.00pm Eastern Time when most people are home from work and catching up with the news or their favourite shows.

Fox News beat its rival networks MSNBC and CNN with viewing figures that represent a 25 percent increase from a year ago, according to Nielsen Media Research.

MSNBC, which broadcasts Morning Joe – a programme usually critical of Trump and Fox News, placed second overall for October with an average of 1.58million viewers.

CNN, of which Trump is an outspoken critic, often dismissing it as “fake news”, came third with an average of 931,000 viewers.

Fox News also claimed the top five spots of most watched news programmes.

In first place with a 3.5million viewers average was Hannity hosted by Sean Hannity, who reportedly talks regularly with Trump over the phone.

In contrast, the most-watched CNN programme on cable news among total viewers was “Cuomo Prime Time,” which finished No.23 – behind 14 Fox News and eight MSNBC programs.

MSNBC ranked fourth overall in basic cable and CNN ninth.

The ratings data will likely embolden Trump as he continues on the midterm elections campaign trail.

In an apparent display of his galvanised spirit at a “Make America Great Again” rally in Estero, Florida, Trump joked there was hardly any point him being there.

Before addressing his base of loyal supporters, the president asked: “Who voted? Who voted?”

Most of the attendees to the rally raised their hands, to which Trump said: “Wow! Everybody voted already?

“Then what the hell am I doing here tonight? Goodbye.”

The firebrand Republican then jokingly turned his back on the crowd and pretended to walk away before returning to his platform, much to the delight of his fans.

Confirming his bullish optimism, he added: “Looks like 100 percent of the people in this room voted already.

“Alright, let’s just enjoy ourselves.”
