NBA news: Milwaukee Bucks GM sends warning to league ahead of Boston Celtics showdown

The Bucks have blitzed their way through the NBA through the opening weeks of the season, and are the only undefeated team remaining, matching a record set in 1971.

Horst spoke to Express Sport ahead of his team’s clash with the Boston Celtics on Friday night, and heaped praise on the way his team has started.

On Tuesday, the Bucks smashed past the Toronto Raptors, who were previously undefeated.

The 124-109 victory was made all the more impressive by the fact that star man Giannis Antetokounmpo was missing after suffering a suspected concussion.

Horst explained that whilst the record itself was a surprise, the manner of victories is what he expected.

“Yeah, for us to be 7-0 is really tying a franchise best effort to start the season since the 1971/72 season,” he said.

“Really only 41 teams in the NBA history have had a start this good.

“I am surprised we’re 7-0.

“Am I surprised we’ve started this well, and that we’ve caught on to our system and the way we’ve played so quickly? Not really.”

Horst revealed that the off-season was the most important period for his team.

In the aftermath of the Bucks’ play-off defeat to the Boston Celtics, Mike Budenholzer was hired as head coach, and Horst was under no illusions about his impact on the team.

“Our guys our players and our coaches put in a trememdous amount of effort in the off-season and bought into spending time with each other and learning coaches system and playing with each other, and really trying to prepare for this season,” he said.

“A lot of guys were spurned by what happened last season with what happened, losing in the seventh game to the Celtics.

“And they’ve been motivated since that point to have a great year this year.

“When we hired coach and his staff, they came right in and fit right along and moved that agenda forward.

“The start is really a result of that.”
