Red Dead Redemption 2 PC release date: Is this when Windows fans will get Rockstar hit?

Red Dead Redemption 2 is finally out, with Rockstar Games releasing their highly anticipated Wild West epic on PS4 and Xbox One last week.

RDR2 has been in development for seven years and it was released to critical and commercial acclaim on Friday.

Red Dead Redemption 2 currently holds a 97 per cent Metacritic rating on both PS4 and Xbox One and has been selling like hot cakes since launch.

In the space of three days it managed over $725million in worldwide retail sales.

These staggering sales made handed RDR2 the biggest opening weekend for any entertainment product in history.

But as fans on PS4 and Xbox One explore the vast world of Red Dead Redemption 2 those on PC are currently missing out.

Like with GTA 5, the Rockstar Games hit was at launch only available on consoles.

A PC version of Grand Theft Auto 5 ended up coming out over a year and a half after the initial PS3 and Xbox 360 versions.

And while a PC build of Red Dead Redemption 2 hasn’t been announced yet, fans are hoping it will just be a matter of time.

Speculation of a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC release date has also been sparked after mysterious in-game files were spotted.

As RockstarIntel reported, in the Red Dead Redemption 2 companion app files were spotted that seemed to hint at an upcoming PC version.

The files referenced a PC version of RDR2 as well as multiple settings that would come with it.

And as speculation mounts over a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version one analyst has had his say.

In an interview with GamingBolt, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter gave his prediction over a Red Dead Redemption 2 PC version.

Pachter said he believes a PC launch for RDR2 will come in April and that it’s also likely to appear on PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

He said: ”PC for sure, most likely by April.

“I’m not sure why they take so long. Next generation consoles are likely as well, whenever those come out.”

For those who haven’t picked up RDR2 yet, a report from Digital Foundry analysed which version available now looks the best.

And their report gave top marks to the Xbox One X.

A thorough breakdown posted on Eurogamer shows that the Xbox One X runs Red Dead 2 at native 4K and also provides the smoothest performance.

It appears there are some noticeable differences between all four console versions of RDR2, all of which add up to the Xbox One X being the frontrunner.

“The resolution scaling between Xbox One and X is unprecedented: the enhanced console is designed to quadruple the base machine’s pixel-pushing output, but instead, Red Dead Redemption 2 is delivering a 6.2x boost to resolution, with further improvements on top of that,” the Digital Foundry report reveals.

“Beyond that, and aside from variation in the implementation of ambient occlusion, it’s all about performance – and it’s here where Xbox One X surprises us still further.

“Despite its immediately apparent resolution advantage over PS4 Pro and its massive boost to pixel count over Xbox One S, the X also has a tangible performance advantage over every other version of the game.”
