NBA news: Kevin Durant to join LeBron James at the Los Angeles Lakers? ‘I love that!’

The Lakers missed out on getting Paul George or Kawhi Leonard to join James this past offseason.

But their attention will now turn to the 2019 free agency class with Durant seemingly top of their list.

The two-time NBA Finals MVP has remained relatively tight-lipped over what his decision will be at the end of the campaign.

However, he has hinted that he will not be looking to take a cut-price contract again like that ones he has taken with the Golden State Warriors.

That has led to strong speculation linking him with the Lakers, who have the cap space to offer someone like Durant a max contract.

And Magic Johnson has made it clear he would love the idea of seeing Durant in a Lakers uniform.

In an appearance on TV during the MLB World Series, Johnson was presented with a photoshopped image showing Durant in a Lakers uniform alongside James.

And, while laughing with the co-presenters, Johnson joked: “I love that!”

“No comment [laughs]. I’ve already been fined enough!”

The Lakers’ president of basketball operations has already gotten in trouble twice in the past for tampering.

His first incident came when he appeared on the Jimmy Kimmel show where he hinted at trying to recruit Paul George.

“We going to say hi because we know each other,” Johnson said.

“You just can’t say, ‘Hey, I want you to come to the Lakers,’ even though I’ll be wink-winking like, ‘You know what that means, right?’”

Johnson was then fined $50,000 by the league last season for his comments about Giannis Antetokounmpo being a future MVP.

“I’m just happy he’s starting in the [2018] All-Star Game because he deserves that,” Johnson said.

“And he’s going to be like an MVP, a champion, this dude he’s going to put Milwaukee on the map. And I think he’s going to bring them a championship one day.”
