Princess Mary of Denmark takes style tips from Kate Middleton as she wows in red dress

Mary, Crown Princess of Denmark, who is married to the heir to the throne in Denmark, Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, was pictured in public today.

The 46-year-old stepped out in a knee-length red dress as she attended a presentation of this year’s Christmas stamp, at Copenhagen City Hall.

The dress featured sleeves which came just below her elbows, and a pale beige belt which cinched at her waist.

Princess Mary teamed the outfit with a pair of pointed nude high heels.

She let her sleek brunette locks tumble around her shoulders.

The royal kept her make-up minimal, with a sweeping of eye-liner and a slick of rose pink lipstick.

She accessorised her look with a number of bracelets and sparkling drop earrings.

Princess Mary has been spotted stepping out in red a number of times before, including back in August this year.

She sported a mid-length, long-sleeved red dress which featured a high neckline, as she posed for a picture beside French First Lady Brigitte Macron – who had been visiting Copenhagen.

The princess is not the only royal to have stepped out in the vibrant tone.

Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has regularly donned a red ensemble for royal engagements in the past.

Earlier this year, the 36-year-old famously stepped out of the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital, shortly after giving birth to her third child with Prince William: Prince Louis.

The mother-of-three opted for a mid-length garment, which featured a white collar.

Back in 2015, the duchess was pictured watching a tennis game at Wimbledon.

Her outfit choice – a red dress which fell just below her knee – wasn’t overly dissimilar to Princess Mary’s aesthetic today.

The ensemble featured slightly shorter sleeves, and the fabric showed off her slender waistline.

The royal also chose to wear her chestnut-toned hair in a stunning down ‘do, with her tresses falling in curls around her shoulders.

She finished her look with a silver wrist watch.

Earlier this month, a professional stylist claimed fellow royal Meghan Markle – who married Prince Harry earlier this year – could have upped “style stakes” during the couple’s visit to Australia.

Comparing her wardrobe to Kate’s, Charlotte Balbier, from All the Pretty, told Express.co.uk: “Kate’s style is more classic, timeless and feminine, opting for ultra sophisticated polished look that plays it a little safer than Meghan.

“With Meghan’s Hollywood back ground she dares to step up the style stakes and follow the trends.”
