Midterm elections 2018: Republican calls on voters to ‘body-slam’ Democratic ‘blue wave’

Georgia Democrats posted a video online of Republican congressman Jody Hice where he was speaking to an audience in Watkinsville and telling voters they needed to stop the Democrats.

He said: “We watched for eight years as the Obama administration gradually dismantled everything you and I believe in and pushed his own socialist agenda.

“The time has come. The line has been drawn in the sand.

“And that agenda has to stop.

“It’s time for this so-called ‘blue wave’ to be body-slammed.”

The comments brought Mr Hice applause from the audience while he was speaking at a campaign event for the Republican’s gubernatorial candidate Brian Kemp.

His remarks come after US President Donald Trump praised congressman Greg Gianforte for body-slamming and punching Guardian journalist Ben Jacobs during a special election in Montana.

Despite repeatedly denying that he never assaulted the journalist, Mr Gianforte pled guilty to assault and received community service, as well as being required to attend anger management courses and pay a fine.

During a rally in Montana, Trump gave praise to the congressman.

He said: “Any guy that can do a body slam, he’s my kind of – he’s my guy.”

He added he believed the attack helped him in the polls while mimicking a body-slamming action before he praised the congressman further, calling him “a tough cookie.”

Trump is facing extreme scrutiny for the rhetoric he uses towards people who are critical of him.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders also backed-up his comments saying that the media is the “enemy of the people”.

She said: “The very first thing that the president did was condemn the attacks both in Pittsburgh and in the pipe bombs.

“The very first thing the media did was blame the president and make him responsible for these ridiculous acts.”

As the election day draws closer and closer, Republicans are attempting to portray the Democrats as being an “unhinged mob”.

Democrats have responded by accusing the Republicans of being hypocrites and claim that Trump continues to use even more inflammatory rhetoric.

Mr Hice’s sat is located in a contested area and has a history of making controversial statements.

Previously, Mr Hice has said that he believes that a woman can fun for office ”if she is within the authority of her husband”.
