Lion Air aeroplane crash: How many people were on board the JT-610 Boeing 737 flight?

The plane being used by Lion Air was a Boeing 737 MAX 8 according to Flightradar 24.

This specific model has the ability to carry over 200 people.

It crashed into the ocean after only thirteen minutes once it took off.

It is believed that there were a total of 188 people on the flight.

Of those 188, 181 were believed to be passengers, along with five flight attendants along with the two pilots.

One child and two babies were on the aircraft.

The aeroplane has the capacity to transport a maximum of 210 passengers.

A search and rescue team is currently trying to locate survivors.

The Boeing 737 MAX series was introduced in May 2017 with multiple airline companies around the world purchasing them.

Each plane costs between $85.1million–109.9million (£65.6million–£84.7million).

JT610 took off from Jakarta at 6.20am local time.

It was supposed to arrive at Pangkal Pinang at 7.20am.

The ground crew lost contact with the flight at 3.33am (11.33pm GMT).

This is the first instance of a Boeing 737 MAX being involved in an accident.

The updated model of the widely-used jet is seen as being more fuel-efficient.

One Boeing 737-800 jet missed a runway on a flight to Bali in 2013 and crashed into the sea.

There were no casualties.

Lion Air is one of Indonesia’s largest airlines with dozens of destinations both globally and locally.
