Roger Federer WINS Swiss Indoors at home tournament, first Tour title since June

Federer began 2018 in style, returning to world No 1 after winning the Australian Open in style.

His 20th Grand Slam was quickly followed by winning the Rotterdam Open, however his third win of the year had to wait until June at the Stuttgart Open after skipping the claycourt season.

Wimbledon has always been Federer’s favoured tournament, using the long break during the claycourt season to best prepare for SW19.

But the summer saw Federer suffer shock early round defeats in both Wimbledon and the US Open with the 37-year-old looking fatigued.

After taking a month off, he returned at the Shanghai Masters earlier this month and looked out of sorts as he lost to Borna Coric.

But it all come together for the tennis legend at his home tournament this week in Basel.

He survived a few scares against Gilles Simon and Filip Krajinovic but was scintillating at times against Daniil Medvedev, Jan-Lennard Struff and eventually Copil.

The Romanian was no match for Federer, who has now won the Swiss Indoors title nine times.
